We saw an outstanding win by Knight’s Choice today in the MCGRATH BUDERIM & MOOLOOLABA QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast!
Ridden by Michael Hellyer at his maiden win on May 26, the gelding returned to the scene of the crime with a similar set up, albeit up a grade. Surprisingly, he was not overly popular with punters and some $10 was available at the jump.
He settled at the rear, and the tempo wasn’t particularly strong, so he looked to have a great deal of work to do when he was last and wide on the turn with 6-8 lengths to make up.
In a few bounds, however, the race was over as he charged down the centre to “donkey-lick” his rivals, according to racecaller Josh Fleming.
A slashing victory that made him the talk of the day, and trainer John Symons suggested he might be tempted to take on the Winx Guineas on July 1, given the merit of his two victories. Aiming high, but he is obviously a horse that continues to improve with the experience of his 5 starts, and John and Sheila know their stuff.
Congratulations to the Symons Laxon team, and to owners Cameron and Rodney Bain, and Richard and Kaye Waldron.
