The Return to Macedon Lodge – the start of Macedon Racing!
John Symons and Sheila Laxon are Group 1‑winning trainers whose partnership has delivered some of Australian racing’s most memorable triumphs.
In 2025, John and Sheila returned to Macedon Lodge, the elite training facility where they first rose to prominence in 2001.
It was a time when Ethereal completed the Caulfield–Melbourne Cup double for Sheila, as John prepared champion Bel Esprit, a multiple Group 1‑winning colt who went on to sire the legendary Black Caviar.
Now, after delivering a magnificent 2024 Melbourne Cup triumph with Knight’s Choice after preparing him at Macedon Lodge, the decision has been made to form a new venture Macedon Racing with the team at Macedon Lodge.
This full‑circle moment marks a new chapter for John and Sheila:
- Backed by decades of experience, two Melbourne Cup victories, and a proven record of developing stars.
- A renewed ambition to shape future champions from one of Australia’s premier training bases, that has been the base for seven Melbourne Cup winners.
- A commitment to owners and supporters, ensuring the legacy of Symons Laxon Racing continues to grow.

John Symons and Sheila Laxon are delighted to celebrate a 2024 Melbourne Cup victory with Knight’s Choice, echoing Sheila’s historic triumph with Ethereal in 2001.
