It was daylight second, a 4 length margin, eased up, for Mewstone Rock when she smashed her rivals with a scintillating burst down the straight on Sunday in the Class 2, 1400m race at the Sunshine Coast.

Carrying 58kg on an unsuitable Heavy 8 track, the 6yo mare settled well back, and despite a fairly slow pace in front, jockey Michael Hellyer had her ready to pounce upon straightening, and pounce she did.

Both Michael and trainer John Symons were thrilled by the run as she was never comfortable in the conditions and ran relatively great time for the day (36.7s last 600m).

We look forward to her getting  back to a firmer track and up to the 2000m distance range that John and Sheila have always thought she would be best suited.
