Homebred KULABA stormed to the lead to win over 1400m in the Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden on Wednesday, 16th November.
This strikingly handsome chestnut Zupaone gelding out of the NZ mare Skiwi (Prized) has always shown plenty of ability in his track work and utilised his good barrier draw to sit mid field and pounce once he had straightened up, to win easily by 1.5 lengths under a hold.
He has had six starts to date for a 1 1 1 1, earning $18,100 for his group of stalwart owners (including some first time winners!) and it would have been sooner had he not copped a bad check at Eagle Farm when his hock was badly galloped on in the straight.
Looks a very honest and exciting horse to be involved in, thanks to Michael Hellyer for a very astute ride (keeping Kulaba out of trouble when the favourite in front of him came down with a hind leg issue) and all the Esprit Racing team for getting him to the track in such good order.
He obviously is comfortable running the 1400m, relaxing beautifully in his races before unleashing a strong burst, so it will be interesting to see how he goes in future at that and even more ground.
