An outstanding return to racing by Irish Constabulary with a slashing win at Sunshine Coast on Friday night!
With a very patient ride by apprentice, Stephanie Lacy, Irish loved his rare inside draw and the hectic pace, and he railed through in the straight under his own steam to race away and win by an increasing 2 lengths.
Given the run was in lieu of a trial, his time of 56.92s was excellent as horses rarely break 57s on this track, and certainly hadn’t in 2016 prior to this race. It was also the gelding’s first win on a firm track, although he had had genuine excuses in most of his previous firm track races.
By the look, Irish has returned for this campaign, bigger and stronger, and looks as if this determined racehorse will comfortably make the transition to Saturday racing and the stable can aim high with him.
Esprit Racing’s trainers John and Sheila were ecstatic with the victory, as John had thought he may be vulnerable at the short distance without a trial. Jockey Stephanie, commented that he is a very special horse, that he had it won very quickly in the straight, and was cantering as he crossed the line.
See Irish’s great win here:
Irish’s owners around the countryside were rapt, and for one owner, turning up to the next morning’s trackwork was all too much…..
