A great day was had at Doomben as we watched Irish Constabulary run a gallant 2nd in the Group 3 W J Healy Stakes over 1200m. With a large contingent of vocal owners from Victoria, NSW and Queensland on track, Irish didn’t let us down as he charged away from the field in pursuit of the eventual winner Burning Passion.
This was the strongest race that Irish had raced in, and after 2 unlucky runs in his last 2 outings we needed luck, and it was a peach of a ride from champion jockey Jeff Lloyd that gave him every chance, only to be beaten by a better horse on the day.
The prizemoney of $35,000 for 2nd takes Irish’s winnings to $310,000 in 18 months of racing. Not bad for a horse who will be 9yo in just 5 weeks, and testament to the training prowess of Esprit Racing’s John Symons and the team.
Another reason to get on board with a great stable, with plenty of fun to come!
