How do I buy a horse?
Current available horses, or periodic lease or syndicate opportunities, are displayed on the website. Alternatively your trainers attend the various horse sales around Australia and New Zealand and are always on the lookout for new talent. As such, they are pleased to discuss your requirements and head to the sales looking for your best option.
Rest assured that all purchases have been thoroughly risk assessed physically.
How much does it cost to have a horse in training at Symons Laxon Racing
The average ongoing cost is around $4,200 per month per horse, which covers training, spelling, veterinary fees, transport, farrier etc. However, the monthly cost can fluctuate greatly depending on whether or not the horse is racing, in training, spelling, nominating for feature races etc.
We try extremely hard to keep costs down for our owners, in a climate where rising costs are challenging.
How will I be updated of my horse’s progress?
Our communications system will deliver a message by text, audio or video, sent directly to your email inbox. The frequency of these messages will depend on what stage your horse is in its campaign. For instance, you will be advised when your horse comes into training, and you could expect monthly updates at that stage, but once the horse starts some faster work, your updates will be weekly/fortnightly.
Closer to racetime, you will be alerted to the nomination, weights, acceptances, and then a preview of the race by your trainer. The race results will be automatically emailed to you as soon as they become available, and any post mortem from your trainer delivered.
All owners should download the MiStable Owners App, log in with your email and create a password. It becomes a single repositiory for all of your communications relating to your horses
Can I speak to the Trainer?
Owners are welcome to speak with your trainers at any time. Bear in mind that their daily commitments may at times prevent a lengthy chat, but they will do their best to answer your every query.
Where will my horse be trained?
All of our horses are trained at the Corbould Park, the Sunshine Coast racecourse at Caloundra. If opportunities allow and performance warrants it, interstate racing will always be an option we would discuss with you.
How can I stay up to date with stable news?
Refer to the website for regular stable news and links to social media (Facebook, Instagram, twitter and You Tube)
Become a Friend of Symons Laxon Racing to ensure you receive all email news.
Owners should ensure they download the MiStable Owners App for all their horse news!
Can I visit my horse?
Owners are welcome to visit their horses at Corbould Park, however please make an appointment with your trainers to ensure you won’t be disappointed. Remember the stables are a work environment so subject to safety and covid protocols.
Do I receive regular invoices?
Whether you own 100% or 5% of a horse you will receive a fully itemised monthly statement via email from a company called knigghts that performs our billing services. Monthly invoices are usually received within 7-14 days after the end of the month. Invoices for syndicates are forwarded to the nominated syndicate manager.
Remember that credit card and BPay facilities are available.
Billing queries should be referred to knigghts as per the statement.
What are your payment terms?
Our payment terms are strictly 7 days after invoice date. Australian Trainers Association Terms and Conditions of Training apply, and are documented on the tax invoice.
Can I insure my horse?
It is an owner’s responsibility to ensure that they have adequate cover for their bloodstock purchases. Our yearling purchases are insured for the first year, and premiums incorporated into the upfront cost of the horse. Cover tends to be for mortality, on or off the track, or an additional premium could be paid to cover for life saving surgery.
The decision to insure is subject to every individual’s risk appetitie.
