It is certainly becoming a very exciting venture with the new JSL Racing Australasia Company getting itself established and setting up parameters about where the new entity is heading and what targets need to be achieved.
One of the first brainstorming ideas came when attending the Karaka sales in glorious New Zealand with John and Sheila, who have access to the most wonderful residence near the beautiful Waikato River. This facility should be fully utilised by JSL owners in the summer months, especially during the yearling sales. There are so many places to see and things to do in this area it makes sense to be able to promote what New Zealand has to offer. We intend to put our thinking caps on and offer our discerning owners a fabulous few weeks in early 2016 so please do let us know whether this promotion could be of interest to you in the meantime.
John Symons again showed his extraordinary yearling purchasing prowess by securing two outstanding types at the Karaka sales – one a grand-daughter of Let’s Elope (one of the three mares to have won the coveted Caulfield and Melbourne Cups double). This super athletic filly is by the wonderful sire High Chaparral and is surely one of the “steals” at the sales.
The next purchase was a magnificent Savabeel colt who is a three-quarter brother to the black type GR I winner SORIANO, who recorded her second GR I win at Te Rapa after John had purchased him, adding even more value to his wonderful pedigree. Both of these yearlings were instantly snapped up by a very astute owner, and we are looking forward to seeing what these wonderful youngsters can put together when they get to the racetrack.
After the hard sale yards were done and dusted at Karaka, time was spent with several owners fishing on Lake Taupo, boating to the Huka Falls, luxuriating in the abundant hot water pools which sprout out of the ground in so many places, as well as enjoying the fabulous NZ cuisine and hospitality that was evident everywhere we travelled.
It was a great experience and definitely something that the JSL Racing Australiasia group will put on the summer agenda from now on.
It was even more exciting returning to Seymour to find the horses Brenda Page had been training during John and Sheila’s absence were in wonderful order and there’s been glowing reports from Sheila about how all the horses are feeling on the training track. There are some serious horses waiting in the wings, such as the Fastnet Rock – Gretchen filly, Danza Kuduro, Mohini, Denoninator, Royal Mephisto, Jacqueric, The Last Laugh and Simply Ming along with the multitude of horses which have been sidelined for so long and, who knows, one of these may turn out to be the best of all of them!
So onwards and upwards, with gusto and enthusiasm, the new team at JSL Racing Australasia are evolving into becoming the vehicle that will enhance the enjoyment of racing for all their participating owners. With this in mind, we would love to hear from everyone about what they look forward to doing as well as the service expectations we need to provide.
If you could contact Naomi Lewis at [email protected] she would be delighted to hear from you.
Looking forward to catching up with all and sundry at the Jump Outs / Trials / Races / Open Days etc.
