What an incredible week it has been for Symons Laxon Racing; one that we are absolutely delighted about!
Firstly, last Sunday at The Star in Brisbane, Knight’s Choice was honoured as Australian Champion Stayer of the Year.
His recognition as Australia’s best stayer is a fitting tribute to a galloper who continues to give us the ride of a lifetime.
As owner Cameron Bain reflected: “He might be the little horse, but he’s given us the biggest moments of our lives. To win a Melbourne Cup and now be crowned Champion Stayer is something we’ll never forget – and we’re so proud of him.”
The opening of the event, at The Star in Brisbane, included stunning vision of the greatest moments of the 24/25 racing season, starting with our Melbourne Cup glory, and it was so exciting to have Robbie Dolan then make his entrance to the stage and sing ‘Hall of Fame’.
The afternoon also showcased some of the biggest names in racing with some thoroughly well-deserved winners in various awards categories, as well as the Hall of Fame inductees and the elevation to legend status for Black Caviar and Winx.
Notably for our stable, Zoustar won Champion Sire of the Year which augurs well for our owners as we have two exciting Zoustar 2yo’s available, in a Sheila’s Star filly and a Construe colt, which you can refer to on the website under “Horses Available”.

Then on Sunday evening in NZ, Sheila Laxon was recognised by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing with the prestigious NZTR Outstanding Global Achievement Award.
This honour highlights Sheila’s career at the highest levels of international racing, from her ground-breaking Melbourne Cup successes, her trailblazing for women in racing, and amongst many other things, resilience.
A very exciting period for Symons Laxon Racing as we re-establish a base at Macedon Lodge and continue to be front and centre on the stage with some of the big stables.
As one owner said to us recently, “How many Melbourne Cup winners in (at least) the last 25 years, have been trained in a team of only 30 horses?”
We could only think of two, and they are Ethereal and Knight’s Choice!
We thank you, our valued friends and owners, for your ongoing support – these achievements are shared with you and the Symons Laxon Racing team.
