Well, they don’t come much better than that!

A wonderful run by Knight’s Choice at his 7th start in his very first campaign to charge away with the Group 3 Winx Guineas at 1600m today on the Sunshine Coast.

Ridden beautifully by Jaden Lloyd, the son of Extreme Choice had been impressively winning with barnstorming finishes but had a steep increase in grade with the influx of the Sydney brigade. That was the way the market saw it, and he was drifting late from $13 to $16 with the favourite Soothsayer heavily supported.

With the pace on early, the gelding settled well back from a good barrier, but commenced making ground along the rails. At the 600m just before they came to the turn, Jaden made the decisive move to swing wide and upon straightening let him balance up waiting to pounce, before letting him rip with a devastating turn of foot.

“Here comes Knight’s Choice, look at Knight’s Choice!” was the call from racecaller Josh Fleming, and the crowd roared as they saw something special, charging down the centre to win by a soft 1.3 lengths in the time of 1.36.48.

John Symons paid tribute to the horse and rider, and of course to co-trainer Sheila Laxon. He plans to spell him before deciding whether to head towards the Melbourne spring, or to wait for the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast in January. Given his relative inexperience, he has untapped ability, so it is a good problem to have.

The Group win put his earnings to $236,000 so congratulations to owners Cameron Bain, and Richard and Kaye Waldron.

This continues the great run for the stable with some lovely horses, so well done to the entire Symons Laxon Racing team!
