We often speak to our owners about the conditioning advantage Macedon Lodge offers — and today, that hill work was on full display.
After two months off the scene, Durban Harbour and Urban Outlook returned to racing at bet365 Park Kyneton in the Evolve Interiors BM66 Handicap over 1856m. Both were expected to need the run, reflected in their starting prices of $18 and $41. Racing wide early, it was expected by most that they’d fade in the straight.
But when the going got tough, the tough got going……
Durban Harbour, with Lachie King aboard and powered by the strength built in his hindquarters from his hill work, showed true grit to stave off challengers and win. Urban Outlook kept coming and ran a very creditable 4th. Both horses will surely continue to improve.
After the disruption of the virus over recent months, this result is a thrilling lift for the stable team.
It gives us great confidence that as more horses return to racing, the conditioning they’ve received will make them highly competitive — wherever they’re placed. We hope that the patience all our owners have required will quickly be repaid, just like the owners of Durban Harbour.
Congratulations to everyone!
