In what was a tragic week for racing with the death of Caulfield track rider Friederike Ruhle, Sheila Laxon attended the National Jockeys Trust Raceday at Caulfield last Saturday, July 4th, with 330 other people keen to show their support.
The NJT was set up in 2004, and is a public charitable trust dedicated to providing funds and other benefits for the relief of financial difficulties for jockeys and their families. The Melbourne Racing Club did a fine job in celebrating the hard work of our industry professionals and supporting this very worthy cause.
Of course, injuries in racing is very close to Sheila’s heart, given that she was seriously injured in a raceday fall at Gisborne racecourse, New Zealand, hospitalized on life support and in a coma for eight days. In addition was her much publicised injury in a fall from a horse she was training at Macedon Lodge where she was unable to do very much for eighteen months.
The event was a major fund raising day for the NJT; please be aware of the work that this organisation does, and support it where possible.
