Isn’t Autumn such a lovely time of year in Victoria, with the vicious summer sun receding and the wonderful cooler nights kicking in, followed by soft, balmy days.
The horses really appreciate these temperate conditions and are blooming in their work, so it is certainly a strategy that JSL Racing will implement in coming years, with the horses having their holidays during the real heat in the middle of summer, returning to training to target the Autumn, Winter and Spring races.
With Mohini being the sole JSL Racing flag bearer in recent weeks, she looks an exciting stayer in the making and will certainly relish the extra distance as she steps up over ground with further race experience and fitness under her belt.
A number of others were seen for their first times this preparation at the Seymour Jump Outs on 20th March and many showed their readiness to race next month, especially Denoninator, who was a lot handier in the short heat than anticipated and went across the line on par with a carnival winner in what was probably the fastest heat of the day. Cash Bonus also won very comfortably over the 800m trip,
As most of you are probably very aware, extraordinary circumstances have meant a great number of very well bred horses have been waiting in the wings for legal obstacles to be demolished and, at long last, these horses are now free to move forward into the training ranks.
It was, indeed, very exciting to recently inspect these fully mature specimens, many of which had been carefully selected as yearlings by the Master Yearling Selector himself, John Symons. There is, surely, another Bel Esprit / Daintree Duke / Down Under Boy and Macedon Lady amongst them, waiting in the wings, ready to explode on to the racing scene, ready to show us their speed and competitiveness.
JSL Racing’s stalwart owners, Scott Healy and Kevin Hawes, have devised the most exciting plan to get these horses back on track and are seeking interested parties to lease them at a cost of training-only factor ($150 per month, all inclusive, for a 5% share). Their horse’s potential will be identified within six months and should that horse not have the ability to pay its way on the racetrack, it can be replaced by another, and another, until we find the mega-stars in waiting!
It will be the most economical and exciting way to get involved with racing horses and our team can’t wait to get this truly great idea up and running.
The first horse off the starting blocks is Baladi Blues who has the most exciting racing pedigree. His sire, Al Maher, has an impressive 60% strike rate of winners to progeny racing. His dam, Street Music, is a half-sister to Jacqueline Rouge, a black type winner of $332,000, and her dam is North East Sheila, the dam of Sheila’s Star and the ill-fated potential superstar Daintree Duke. Another half-sister is Up Over Girl, dam of Down Under Boy, the black type winner of $530,000.
As JSL Racing was closely involved with training most of this winning family, they have the inside running about what makes them tick and can’t wait for Baladi Blues to show his hand when he gets up to galloping stage.
