Great training, perfect placement and an excellent ride combined for Delorme to show her brave, staying prowess to take out her maiden victory at Eagle Farm in the “Aquis the Home of 2YO Speed Maiden Handicap” over 1846m.

Her first 7 runs had seen her unplaced but running on in her races as if the experience and added fitness was improving her, and the 4yo daughter of Under The Louvre looked ready to run a bold race today. As with all of the Symons Laxon horses, she presented in terrific condition in the mounting yard before the race.

Jockey Robbie Dolan ensured he utilised the good barrier 3 by urging her forward, and then had her relaxed in a perfect position midfield in 6th position. With Chris Waller’s heavily backed favourite, Taranaki, behind her, it did seem from a long way out that the pair were poised to be in the finish.

Patiently waiting until the corner, Robbie saved ground whilst his rivals swung wide, and he then presented the mare from behind the leaders to work through her gears to hit the lead down the centre of the track. Taranaki made a late charge for victory, but Delorme was brave and staved off the challenge to win by a half head in the time of 1:54.84s.

Everyone was delighted with the result; clearly the mare has come a long way in her short career, and to take out a city win in Xmas week was reason to be very cheery!

Congratulations to her owner Rob Matthews and well done to the team at Symons Laxon Racing!
