It’s Melbourne Cup Day, and Sheila Laxon and John Symons have got an in form, granddaughter of Cups champion Let’s Elope running at a staying distance in town……

No omens there, and despite a dominant last start performance, the market was happy to leave her as 4th favourite, on the assumption that this was a harder track and a more difficult task.

Well, Kiriana and jockey Ron Stewart were happy to follow the omen and not the market, and from a long way a victory was looking likely. When Ronnie kept probing for the inside run, and Kiriana poked her lovely head through with ears pricked, we could tell that she was going to be mighty hard to beat on the form that she is in.

Win she did, in a very impressive effort that saw her clear out by several lengths in a display that stopped a nation, well, parts of it, and no doubt this lightly raced mare is a very likely candidate to be progressing into Saturday grade in town.

Congratulations to everyone!
