A great thrill and, no doubt, a relief for owners when Il Toro d’Oro won his first race yesterday, the STEWARTS PURE Maiden Handicap (1600 METRES) at the Sunshine Coast.
Ridden by Taylor Marshall, it was his 20th start in a race, and his second in the week after an underwhelming run at Doomben mid-week. With a change to the poly surface which he had shown a liking for in his trackwork, and changes to his gear, he was ridden very aggressively to keep his mind on the job.
To his credit he did respond and the win, after sitting wide and continuing to be strong to the line, was very meritorious.
The win takes his career to 1 win and 7 placings from his 20 starts, for $70,475 prizemoney.
