In a strong, resilient performance, High Chaparral 4yo filly Mohini won her maiden today in the Combined Probus Club Maiden Plate over 1450m at Kilmore.
She chased the tearaway leader, Ultimate Dancer, bringing the field up to it before the turn, and twice looked likely to be overhauled by Heavenly Dancer climbing the uphill run home, but the filly fought very bravely to record a neck victory.
Trainers, John and Sheila, and jockey Casey Bruce were all thrilled with the victory, as were the group of owners who contended with the icy wind on track.
Given the 35 day break, it was an excellent training performance and one that will put Mohini in good stead in terms of improved fitness, next time she steps out.
