A great start to spring with a lovely ride by Trudy Thornton in an action-packed affair saw Delorme rail through late to win the MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA Class 1 Handicap over 2200m at Sunshine Coast today.

From a kind barrier 3, Trudy had the 5yo mare on the rail and travelling nicely for most of the journey.

A fall at the top of the straight occurred and most eyes then moved to the favourite Farwest as it zoomed to the lead, but as it became wayward, Delorme built up the revs and charged through to take the lead and win well, beating the riderless horse which fortunately kept out of the way.

This was her 14th start, and her 2nd win in her career, with her maiden win at Eagle Farm last December over 1846m, so she is doing a good job once she gets out to that preferred staying range.

Congratulations to John and Sheila for a great training effort, Trudy for the excellent ride, and to owner Rob Matthews at Maclean Grazing.
